Young Professionals

Led by a council of peers, The Women’s Home Young Professionals (TWHYP) are bright young women and men who support the mission of The Women’s Home with their time and resources. Started in 2009 as a grassroots initiative to help rising young professionals make a difference in their community, WHYP has grown over the years to become an integral force within The Women’s Home.
Under the leadership of the WHYP council, members organize and volunteer for fundraising and social events throughout the year. Annual events include social mixers, monthly volunteer projects at The Cottage Shop (The Women’s Home resale shop), a holiday party for residents of The Home and The Women’s Home’s Annual Crawfish Boil, a fundraising event that raised nearly $80,000 to support The Women’s Home in 2017.
If The Women’s Home Young Professionals sounds like your way to make a difference, we welcome you to join our group today.

nicole worleyNicole Worley
Meet Nicole Worley, a member of The Women’s Home Young Professionals. A Texas native, Nicole Worley makes an impact with #twhyp as the Cottage Shop Liaison.  Nicole describes the shop as “Houston’s best-kept secret for amazing thrift deals,” including four discount days a week!  In fact, Nicole increased the visibility of the Cottage Shop last month as she led the third annual Shop.Taste.Empower event with a local DJ, food vendors, swag bag goodies, and over two hundred participants!  Nicole comes by her enthusiasm naturally as a former competitive cheerleader, and this energy serves her well in her professional role as a risk analyst at Enterprise Products.  This vegetarian also loves binging on Netflix, learning from Brene Brown, listening to podcasts, and spending time with her canine Summer.

stephanie-nguyenStephanie Nguyen
Meet Stephanie Nguyen, member of the Young Professionals of The Women’s Home!  Stephanie feels called to volunteer due to the influence of her mother.  After escaping from Saigon for a second chance with her family in the United States, Stephanie’s mother encouraged her children to impact the world around them with community service.  Stephanie has done just that with her own family.  The last several summers, Stephanie and her children Zoe and Zak traveled together to rural Vietnam to build schools with Sunflower Mission.  Stephanie maintains her commitment to service as an instrumental member of the Leadership Council of The Women’s Home Young Professionals. Whether celebrating client birthdays or serving alongside her children and the clients at Food for Life, Stephanie participates with generosity and her trademark smile .  This past week, Stephanie chaired the event “Dress a Girl Around the World.”  The Young Professionals and clients of the Home worked hands-on to construct youth dresses out of pillow cases and colorful garments, donated by the Cottage Shop.  The dresses were sent to Hope4Women International for distribution to young girls around the world, spreading the message that “every girl deserves the dignity of owning at least one dress.” When she is not volunteering, Stephanie loves playing sand volleyball and enjoys a complicated relationship with running.
