Mabee WholeLife® Service Center

In the fall of 2017, The Women’s Home began offering services at the Mabee WholeLife® Service Center located next door to Jane Cizik Garden Place in Spring Branch. This 30,000 square foot service center will engage in collaborative relationships to offer a variety of services. In 2018, all programs will be in place, and these services will enhance the wellness and stability of families in our housing programs and the surrounding neighborhood. These services will include:

Primary Healthcare

Healthcare services, provided by a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) operated by Spring Branch Community Health Center, will include prenatal and pediatric care, women’s health specialties and adult healthcare. Services from the health clinic will be offered in English and Spanish. The clinic will also provide parenting classes, along with gang and drug use prevention and relapse prevention classes.

Behavioral Healthcare

The service center will have space for on-site counseling, therapeutic, and psychiatric services specially designed for families and children who have experienced trauma. These services will be provided by staff from The Women’s Home and other partners to provide therapy and counseling services for children who have experienced trauma, which is often an issue for children who have experienced homelessness.

Educational Services for Children

15,505 square feet of the center has been dedicated as educational space for children including special spaces specifically designed for creative movement and the arts. We will provide after-school and other programs for children. These programs will support the learning goals of the Spring Branch Independent School District and Treasure Forest Elementary School, a local elementary school that is located across the street from the center.

Our facility will also feature a Certified Outdoor Classroom designed by Nature Explore, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing children’s lives through research-based outdoor classroom design services, educator workshops, and natural products. This space will be available for children in our after-school and summer programs to use in guided learning activities and will provide children who have a history of trauma with a place for guided therapeutic play.

Educational Services for Adults

An additional 6,400 square feet has been designed specifically for adult education and workforce development training within the center. This space features a 30-unit computer lab that can be used for job searches, online coursework and other training needs. It also has four classrooms equipped with smart board technology, the capacity for on-site and distance learning, and video conferencing. Movable, partitioned walls between the classrooms will accommodate small groups for classes, but will also allow for the space to be transformed into one large room that can seat up to 80 people.
