Annual Crawfish Boil

Online registration for our annual Crawfish Boil is now closed.

We will have a limited number of tickets available for sale at the door on Saturday, April 1, 2017.




When you arrive, please go to our Will Call Table (located at the entrance facing McDuffie Street) to pick up your tickets. If you would like to have your tickets in hand before the event, you are welcome to drop by our administrative offices anytime this week between 8:00 am and 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. We are located at 607 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77006. Just let our receptionist know that you’re there to pick up tickets for the Crawfish Boil, and she will be happy to assist you.



Parking in Houston is crazy, right?  Parking in Montrose can be even crazier!! There is limited parking available in the neighborhood surrounding West Alabama. Many streets only allow parking on one side of the street, so please take notice of street signs when parking.  If you don’t want the hassle of parking, we encourage you to carpool or catch a ride with a great service like Uber.

Triumph Luncheon Wrap-Up

Our first ever Triumph luncheon was held on Friday, November 18 at the Royal Sonesta and indeed was a triumph!  520 guests dined on a tasty fall meal in the great company of the many friends and supporters who turned out to celebrate the mission of The Women’s Home, pay tribute to our distinguished honorees and be mesmerized by the keynote speaker, Amanda Lindhout.  Most importantly, those in attendance raised a record-breaking $357,000 to forward the work of their beloved organization.  Highlights included a stunning solo by singer Kenneth Gayle, a moving and funny speech by Lifetime Achievement honorée, Diane Riley and the beautiful story of survival and forgiveness delivered by Amanda Lindhout.

In addition to Diane, other honorees included, Bank of America represented by David Ruiz for corporate community support; long-time board member, Jackie Phillips for leadership; and Ashley Brown Ruiz for program excellence.  Each received a stunning glass award as they took to the stage for their ovations.

Kudos to chairs Donae Chramosta, Kristen McDaniel, Karen Redden and Jo Reid for a beautifully choreographed event from start to finish.  Each gave their special touch to the event and drove home a grand success.

Adele and Ber Pieper Family Place – Now Open!

In response to the need for an affordable environment in which families can thrive, The Women’s Home has completed the first phase of a two part capital project to further develop a unique community for women and their families. Opened on October 1, 2016, Adele and Ber Pieper Family Place, our $15.7 million permanent supportive housing complex is LEED certified, with 80 two- bedroom and 4 three-bedroom, unfurnished apartments. Residents have access to laundry facilities, community meeting space, and an outdoor barbecue and play area. The housing facility is located on 2.3 acres of land at the corner of Jacquelyn Street and Hammerly Boulevard, within walking distance to Jane Cizik Garden Place and our soon to be complete Mabee WholeLife® Service Center, an elementary school, a bus line, shopping centers, medical care, and employment opportunities. Two full time case managers are on-site to assist vulnerable families towards stability and success.

This incredible facility has opened its doors devoting 40 of the apartment homes to those families who have faced chronic homelessness. These families have been accepted from area shelters to a home of their own. Since the fastest growing segment of homeless are single women with children, programs and services will be provided that erase their vulnerability and vastly improve their futures.

On Saturday, September 24, more than 30 employees and family members of Fluor volunteered at The Women’s Home as part of the Fluor Cares initiative. The Fluor Day of Caring included prepping and painting The Home’s large classroom and 2 bathrooms in the Life Learning Center at the 811 campus and assisted with sorting clothing for The Cottage Shop.
Not only did Fluor Cares provide the man power to accomplish the project, but they also donated the supplies to improve the learning and healing environment for our clients.
Thank you to Fluor Cares for volunteering to make our campus more beautiful and our Cottage Shop even more successful!

Clark Cooper Concepts hosts Halloween Happy Hour
to benefit The Women’s Home

The spirits came early to The Dunlavy on Allen Parkway as Clark Cooper Concepts hosted a Dia De Los Muertos Themed Happy Hour on Thursday, October 20th to benefit The Women’s Home. Over 200 guests were treated to Day of the Dead themed cocktails and appetizers while enjoying the revelries of a classic Mexican loteria.
In addition, Clark Cooper Concepts is fielding a team of six runners who will fundraise and race in the 2017 Aramco Half Marathon in support of The Women’s Home through the Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason Program. The evening raised almost $1,000 in donations to support the Clark Cooper Concepts Half Marathon Team and The Women’s Home. A second loteria is planned for Thrusday, November 3rd at The Dunlay.

The Women’s Home would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Clark Cooper Concepts for its extreme generosity. If you would like to support the efforts of Clark Cooper through the Run for a Reason Program, please visit Chevron Houston Maraton and enter “Clark Cooper” under the team name. All donations will directly benefit The Women’s Home.

RFARwTXTandWEB_color_NOdate_finalThe Women’s Home is honored to have been selected as an official charity in the Chevron Houston Marathon’s Run for a Reason Program for the fifth straight year!

Help build us whole lives through your participation in the 2017 Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramaco Houston Half Marathon or ABB 5K by running for The Women’s Home. Your support will help raise both funds and awareness for the programming we offer to local under-served women and their families.

There are four ways you can help The Women’s Home through the Run For A Reason program:

1. Become our HERO.

For a $350 tax-deductible donation, you will receive a guaranteed entry into the race of your choice (Chevron Houston Marathon or Aramco Half Marathon) and receive some awesome benefits that include a custom back bib, tech cap, pass for pre-race private indoor restrooms, and much more!

2. Fundraising for Registration (FFR).

This option gives runners an opportunity to receive a guaranteed race entry in the race of their choice by fundraising for The Women’s Home. We have a limited number of these spots available with a set fundraising minimum of $500.

3. Already have an entry?

You can still support The Women’s Home! Go to Chevron Houston Marathon‘s website, select The Women’s Home from the list of charities on the Run for a Reason Charity Page and then click on the Fundraise/Donate button. Every runner that raises $350 or more will receive the same benefits as our HEROs.

4. Looking for a way to promote your business?

Your company can receive great exposure as a Sidewalk Squad Corporate Charity Donor. As a corporate charity donor, your company will be aligned with a 40+ year community event that has become the nation’s premier winter marathon. Plus, your company’s name will be seen by more than 30,000 participants, 7,000 volunteers, 250,000 spectators and over half a million television viewers – all while contributing a tax deductible donation to The Women’s Home.

Texas Women Rainmakers


On Friday, August 26, the Texas Women Rainmakers met in Houston for their annual conference.

The Rainmakers are a group of female lawyers from across Texas dedicated to “helping women lawyers be better rainmakers and succeed in their careers.” As part of their conference, they asked Debra Richmond, staff of The Home to attend and speak about the work being done to help women build whole lives. In gratitude for The Home’s attendance, the Rainmakers asked conference attendees to bring sheet and towel sets for the 40 apartments set to house the chronically homeless at the Adele and Ber Pieper Family Place starting in October.
Hearing about the work The Home does inspired the Rainmakers to donate 13 sets of sheets, 6 towel sets, and over $3,100!

I, along with the entire Board of Directors, express our tremendous gratitude and appreciation to Paula for her almost 25 years of dedicated service and visionary leadership to The Women’s Home.  Her compassion and desire to help women in crisis inspires us all.

Dearest all,

It is with tremendous pride and excitement that I share with you my decision to retire as Executive Director of the Women’s Home.

Nearly 25 years ago, I joined The Women’s Home, committed to be a servant leader furthering our mission – to provide a voice and assistance to those who need it most. During my tenure at the Women’s Home, we have helped thousands of women through our nationally recognized WholeLife® Program; become a national model for other like-minded organizations; and expanded our services to provide a much needed sober living apartment complex serving women in the Houston community. Just this year, we have constructed and opened a new family apartment complex, the Adele and Ber Pieper Family Place, providing housing for working families and those that have experienced homelessness. Later this month, construction of the WholeLife® Service Center will commence, which will provide much needed services in the community to include a healthcare clinic and providing after-school and summer school programming for children. In addition, workforce development, substance abuse and mental health services will be available for adults.

None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of The Women’s Home staff and the Board of Directors. It has been my pleasure to work with Boards of Directors and donors that put so much of their personal time and effort into our organization over the years. I have been profoundly blessed to be a part of such an incredible team. There has never been a time when The Women’s Home executive leadership team, staff, and Board of Directors has been stronger or more stable.

I will continue to lead The Women’s Home until my successor is appointed by the Board of Directors in early 2017. A committee of board members led by Karen Ostrum George and past presidents Kay Walther and Susan Walker-Spalding is conducting the search for the right candidate to be approved by the Board. I will welcome the new executive director with open arms, providing assistance in any way to ensure he or she is positioned for success. In the meantime, be assured that we are moving forward with the vital work of the organization. With your continued support and commitment, the future of The Women’s Home remains very bright.

Thank you for your trust, confidence, and support over the past 25 years. The progress, growth, and accomplishments of The Women’s Home have occurred because of your efforts and support. It has been my distinct pleasure to serve you and the women in our community whose lives are being transformed.
